The Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox on Sunday, clinching the AL East title in the process. New York defeated Boston 4-2 in Sunday's matinee game. Andy Pettitte got the win, his 14th victory of the season. The Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Yankees rallied with runs in the third, sixth (two) and eighth. Boston won the first eight games of the season series, but New York took nine of the next ten contests.

The Dodgers clinched a playoff berth on Saturday with an 8-4 victory over the Pirates. It will be their fourth appearance in six years and their second consecutive under manager Joe Torre, who now has 15 postseason appearances under his belt. Los Angeles leads the NL West, but are assured of at least the NL Wild Card. "It's going to be a lot more if we can clinch this division and secure home-field advantage," Andre Ethier said. The Dodgers lead the Rockies by six games in the division with just seven games to play.

The Cardinals clinched the NL Central title with a 6-3 win over the Rockies on Saturday night. Jason LaRue, subbing for injured starting catcher Yadier Molina, hit a home run in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. "We played good baseball tonight," Matt Holliday said. "They're trying to win a playoff spot just like we are. It was good baseball."
